Make Believe

Dear Readers

The following flash fiction story was written in response to Rochelle’s FridayFictioneers photo prompt, posted this week (14/03/18 for Friday 16/03/18) by Ted Strutz. MAKE BELIEVE

by

Kelvin M. Knight

I’ve always been human shy. I don’t know why. Neither do my family. They tried everything to fix me, shone all their lights on me, but the thought of regarding humans, having my buttons pushed by them, was too much.

All I ever wanted was to open my eye when I chose and capture hidden truths.

I detest being in the spotlight so they banished me here. And yet, beyond this conical sphere of fake adulation, there’s proper darkness: full of butchered beliefs, tortured truths and sulking secrets – all desperate to be revealed.

Thank you, Father, I click then whir.

  2. very interesting to have the camera’s pov – and at one point I got lost in the writing to where i forgot it was a camera – it was that good. And love CS Lewis but his stuff always makes me – or usually makes me read it a couple times.
    nice take on the prompt

What a powerful take on the glamour industry and celebrity culture as seen by a paparazzo!

  4. Dear Kelvin,

I liked that he didn’t like humans pushing his buttons. I assume we’re reading the thoughts of a robot or some sort of AI? At any rate, an entertaining and thought provoking read. To tell the truth I’m a little human shy myself. 😉

    Shalom,

    Rochelle
