A STONE MEANT

© Kelvin M. Knight, 2019

I am not a stepping stone to your destination, each stone of me is your destination.

Wheresoever you have come from, whatsoever you have done, matters not. This fading of your skin, this waning of your body, are like sunshine and rain to me.

Come, place your foot here or there, you will see. Place your hands upon the flesh of my stone and you will feel. Sit or lay, or stand and sway, upon any part of me and you will understand.

That each and everyone one of your steps is a coming home, and there is such jubilation to be found in coming home. From jubilation joy flows then hope grows, thicker than this vegetation swallowing you.

Push through your fear, my dear sweet child, you have waited long enough. Please, you are strong enough, you are worthy enough. Come, live on me as I live in you.

  1. Each lovely line is worth savoring–so much depth and beauty in each phrase. It’s like an invitation to become one with paradise.

Always a pleasure to see you. Sorry for not getting over here sooner. It’s been crazy busy here at home.

  2. This is beautiful, Kelvin, a lovely statement of faith. “Joy flows then hope grows” – rhyming like that is such a risky tactic, but it works marvellously here.
What a meditation on the meaning of life this piece of flash fiction makes!
    Lovely, lovely writing, Kelvin!

    1. Coaxing words, hmmm, they are, aren’t they. My rock is quite the coaxer. Completely unlike me!! Thanks for taking the time to comment and chat over on your blog, Lynn. Good luck with the publication next week. I eagerly await your news so I can purchase another of your stories.

  3. Such magical poetry in this, Kelvin — talk about layers and rippling! I especially love that first line; interesting take on the “it’s the journey not the destination” saying: “Here, with me, you are already there. You are home.”
